The king himself, Alfonso 13th inaugurated it, together with the local authorities. The need of lodging in Madrid was growing, and the Hotel Ritz was the quality answer to that need. Initially requested by the king himself after a european tour in which he noticed the lack of a Hotel that could possibly host a royal visitor. The famous hotelier Cesar Ritz himself supervised the construction of the hotel that was partly financed by the King himself, among other important protagonists of the era.

It was back in 1912 when Belgian entrepreneur Georges Marquet, followed the suggestion of Alfonso 13th (yes! the same king! Apparently one 5 stars hotel was not enough!) to build this luxurious and elegant lodge built with a new material, reinforced concrete.
Strangely enough, in those years, having private toilets and bathrooms in the room was kind of unusual. This was one of the first hotels to offer them, together with an intercom, telephones and a variety of services in the common areas such as a brewery and brasserie, a cinema a tea room and a dance hall area.
Today is one of the most exclusive Luxury Hotels of the Spanish capital and a member of the Starwood Hotels and Resort Group. Actors and important personalities commonly lodge here.
