Top 5 Luxury Hotels in Madrid

Our hotel expert, made a selection of the top 5 Hotels in Madrid.

The main criteria were Location, sense of exclusivity and service friendliness. We included 4 and 5 star hotels in our research and we went to meet the owners to ask the stories behind each of this magnificent establishments. Make sure you don’t miss out on our article on the best Boutique hotels!

Principal Hotel – theprincipalmadridhotel.com

7 floors, 76 rooms and one of the most spectacular terraces of all Madrid. The solarium and pool on the last floor will secure your spring tan while refresh you, together with a state-of-the-art cocktail served at the fully equipped cocktail bar next to the pool. Ramon Freixa (2 Michelin Stars) will pleasantly surprise you. And you can enjoy his delicious proposals on the 6th floor where the elegant restaurant with views takes place.

This elegant Modern Boutique hotel landed in Madrid in 2015. Taking the place of an older classic hotel, it now features all new installations with an elegant style. Its located right on Gran Via, one of the most central streets of the capital.Cibeles Palace and the Retiro Park are less than 5 minutes away.

Urso Hotel – hotelurso.com

The 20th Century limestone hotel was renovated and brought back to light from the spanish hotelier Pablo Carrington together with the famous designer Antonio Obrador. They made a great job at respecting the original look of the building while respecting its features. The hardwood floors, the original elevator and the wrought-iron balconies all shine harmoniously together, in this modern yet authentic new frame.
The contrast between the contemporary details and the traditional wallpapers and the overstuffed sofas is unique, even more noticeable in the public areas of the hotel.
The branded Luxury hotel Spa (Natura Bissé) is the first in Madrid and it is totally at the level of the hotel. It offers a variety of beauty treatments, all with the quality of Natura Bissé.

Urban Hotel – hotelurban.com

The name might suggest you the idea, yes, this hotel is right in the heart of the city, few steps from the most central (not the prettiest though!) square of Madrid, Puerta de Sol. Built in 2004, this avant-garde Luxury Hotel features an external pool with outdoor grill and bar and a conference center with secretarial services.
Jacuzzi, gym and rooftop terrace are only some of the highlights of this architectural delight. The design decoration might trick you into thinking you are entering more of an exclusive Art Gallery, rather than a 5 stars hotel.

Hotel Ritz Madrid – mandarinoriental.com/ritzmadrid

How long, is long enough to enter they olympus of Hotels in a country? Well, the Hotel Ritz Madrid just earned the 100 years of quality service mark in Octobre 2010. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is managing this little piece of history, so trust me that this hotel is nothing but outdated.

The king himself, Alfonso 13th inaugurated it, together with the local authorities. The need of lodging in Madrid was growing, and the Hotel Ritz was the quality answer to that need. Initially requested by the king himself after a european tour in which he noticed the lack of a Hotel that could possibly host a royal visitor. The famous hotelier Cesar Ritz himself supervised the construction of the hotel that was partly financed by the King himself, among other important protagonists of the era.

Nowadays the Ritz still keeps high its antique splendor, positioned in one of the most central yet prestigious parts of Madrid, this 5 start hotel superior will not let you down in any way. It is now part of the Mandarin Oriental group.

Westin Palace – westinpalacemadrid.com

It was back in 1912 when Belgian entrepreneur Georges Marquet, followed the suggestion of Alfonso 13th (yes! the same king! Apparently one 5 stars hotel was not enough!) to build this luxurious and elegant lodge built with a new material, reinforced concrete.

Strangely enough, in those years, having private toilets and bathrooms in the room was kind of unusual. This was one of the first hotels to offer them, together with an intercom, telephones and a variety of services in the common areas such as a brewery and brasserie, a cinema a tea room and a dance hall area.

Today is one of the most exclusive Luxury Hotels of the Spanish capital and a member of the Starwood Hotels and Resort Group. Actors and important personalities commonly lodge here.
